If I wrote my life story, I'm pretty sure that when I was done, I'd look down and realize I wrote the whole thing in crayon.
I'm not saying I'm thinking about writing a life story because believe me, no one would read it, including my own mother.
But if you're a Mommy, you know what I mean by that statement. Being a Mommy consumes every part of you (in a good way). The moment that you find out that you are pregnant, you turn into Momma bear, protecting your tummy from anything you can dream up going wrong. You read about what you should eat, what you should wear, how you should sleep, your entire life changes.
THEN, you have the baby. Then and only then do you realize what love is. Then and only then do you realize what "my cup runneth over" truly means.
As a working mother, I am proud of my accomplishments. I figured out my plan at the ripe old age of 23 and now, I'm 7 years in, 29.1 years old, and I like being a professional mom. I wear a suit proudly every day, even the days that I have snot on my shoulder and a smushed up banana in my hair. But when someone asks me to tell them something about myself, that's not the part I tell. I tell them about 2 rowdy toddlers that make life every bit as difficult as the make it wonderful! The Mommy part of who I am is the biggest part, the part that I'm most proud of.
So here is a quick list of 3 things to do either by alone or with girlfriends to remind yourself that you aren't ONLY a Mommy, but also a VIP!
1. Get a pedicure and bring a glass of wine with you. (Don't worry, I've been doing it for YEARS and they don't mind!)
2. Read a book. Fiction. Yes, I just finished Ted Turner's auto-biography, but I read fiction too. If you're like me, there may be nights when you can only read a half a page before your eyes roll back in your head, but you'll quickly be reminded of why it's an incredible feeling to get lost in a fiction world.
3. Institute a "Girls Night". Once a month? Can you get away for ONE night? Sure you can! Plan it far in advance so that the hubby will be on board. Do it at each other's house for a low cost option. Do something MINDLESS like watch The Bachelor together!
Doing a few things on your own that make you feel like a woman, and not just a mom will refresh you for whatever those little ones decide to throw at you next!
So as I sit here in my suit and heels writing this post, know that I'm happy to report that I'm writing it in crayon. Every letter is a different color and I'm so happy to have that little bit of spice in my life. There's nothing in the world I'm more proud of than those 2 little boys that put yogurt handprints on my nylons and my Calvin Klein heels in the toilet this morning. But it's ok because I'm going to take some wine to the nail salon later today!
