You are a Hybrid Mom!
08/14/2010
I started this post in early July when it hit me that we are Hybrid forms of the word Mom these days. In my curiosity, I researched the definition of Hybrid.
Here is webster.com's definition of Hybrid:
ˈhī-brəd
1 : an offspring of two animals or plants of different races, breeds, varieties, species, or genera
2 : a person whose background is a blend of two diverse cultures or traditions
3 : ... something...that has two different types of components performing essentially the same function
Hybrid Mom
Here goes my definition:
I'm thinking of a Hybrid car. The car looks sleek and sexy...new. It's definitely a hot color. The car does it's job though. It takes care of people - gets them where they want to go. It even provides a feeling of safety if the world outside is cold, or hot, or if you are in a scary part of town. The car is different in another way too. It's efficient. It has a lot to do, going as many miles as other cars, but doing it so much more efficiently that it has great gas mileage.
Hybrid Mom: We are sleek and we are sexy. We do our jobs by taking care of the little ones in our care and provide safety from the outside world. There are many times a tiny head gets buried in our legs when the little one is being shy or scared. We are safe havens. And MAN, are we efficient! It's a good thing that we can multi-task - our picture is in the dictionary next to the word.
So fellow stressed out, snot wiping, car pooling, household managing, multi-tasking moms - hold that chin high! You are sleek and sexy (and definitely a hot color) - you are a Hybrid!
